Meeting at the Crossroads of Myth and Meaning
I’m Dani, and I have a PhD in theology and religious studies, focused on popular culture. This really just means I’ve spent years asking why old myths keep turning up in the stories we love, especially games. (And yes, that means I occasionally get to call playing games ‘research.’)
Each episode I sit down with someone close to that work: a writer, a voice actor, a fellow academic, sometimes just a fan who’s clocked something the rest of us missed. We talk about what’s changed, what’s stayed the same, and why we still can’t leave these old stories alone.
No script, just conversations with people who are passionate about myth and the human gift of storytelling.

Dr Danielle Shalet
Host and creator of Myths, Games & Meaning. Dani’s interdisciplinary research explores myth, religion, and popular culture, with a particular focus on video games. She also dabbles in archaeological fieldwork.
Dr Gina Bevan
Co‑host on selected episodes and collaborator. Gina’s interdisciplinary research explores pop culture, gender, and ancient myth.
Dr Tamar Elderton-Welch
Sanity Checker and Muse. Tamar is an ancient historian whose work focuses on religion in Hellenistic Egypt, especially lay practice, community, and culture.
Nanci Santos
Co-host on selected episodes and collaborator.
The podcast is created and produced by Dani, with occasional co‑hosting and collaboration from Nanci and Gina. Tamar contributes behind the scenes as a creative sounding board and muse, helping shape ideas even when she prefers not to appear on‑air.
